Recliner Chair

Recliner Chair

Choosing the right Recliner Chair for your family can be difficult. You will want to compare features, fabric, and size between a variety of recliners before you make a decision. This is something your family will have in their home for a long time, so do not rush into a decision; take your time and it will benefit you in the end.

Features

The standard feature of a recliner chair is that it actually reclines. Sounds simple, right? Not exactly. There are different types of reclining. Some chairs only recline when the footrest is elevated, others you can lean back regardless of the position of the footrest. This feature is nice to have with small children, because you can lean back and rock which is not available on all models. Most types do not rock when your legs are up, and if you want that feature, you may want to consider purchasing one with a separate ottoman instead of an attached footrest. Do not be afraid to go into the store and spend a considerable amount of time sitting in each and asking about the features. There are even chairs with features such as massage, built in cooler, and remote holders that you may want to consider.

Fabric

There are many different fabrics available for recliner chairs in a variety of colors and textures. A new trend is the microfiber fabrics. They look sleek, clean easily, and are soft to the touch. However, if young children are in the house, this delicate fabric can be easily torn, so you may want to reconsider. Most recliners are a solid color, a variety of hues available from tan to brown to black. Again, with young children or pets, a light color might not be the best idea. Make sure to ask the salesperson about any warranties relating to the fabric, as well as how to clean it. There is a huge price difference in the microfiber fabric, but it will hold up nicer.

Size

Recliners are not one size fit all. If you have members of your house that are not at average height (Below 5’5 or above 6’0) they may not be comfortable in the recliner. There are many big and tall models available, with at least an extended footrest. The problem is that when someone who is very tall sits down and puts their feet up, the foot rest falls at their calves, possibly cutting off circulation and making the experience very uncomfortable. Make sure all members of the household go into the store and sit in the chair to make sure it is the size you want. Also, do you have a room for a recliner once it is reclined back and the footrest extended? Measure that span and see if it will fit in the room you want it to without blocking traffic or scuffing walls.

Finding a good reclining chair is not hard if you are willing to spend a little time. Make sure the features, fabric, and size will be right for your home and guarantee you will find a reclining chair you can enjoy for years to come.
